The Veszprém-Balaton Film Piknic initiative, implemented within the framework of the European Capital of Culture 2023 programme, supports the effort to strengthen the cultural and creative region of Veszprém and Lake Balaton and increase their European visibility.

The time and location of the Veszprém-Balaton Film Picnic allows the film industry and the  audience to watch Hungarian films, meet Hungarian stars and filmmakers, watch and re-discover contemporary and classic masterpieces, blockbusters and rarities, all at the buzzing Lake balaton in late summer.

Since the last Veszprem TV meeting was held in the 1990s, the film industry has not been represented in the region with any major professional or community programmes.  Yet, the atmosphere of the city and Lake Balaton is the ideal location for  film events, which is why we are deligthed for the initiative and consider it very promising. The art of film and motion picutre is an important element of our programme, and we intend to provide the most attractive medium for the Hungarian cinematographers and the audience. We do this not least with infrastructural developments, such as the opening of a new art cinema.

The new film event, originally scheduled for mid-June, will be held from 3 to 5 September due to restrictions introduced in response to combating the coronavirus, that also affects events. In connection with the change of date and the pandemic, the event gained a new purpose. With the cozy screenings in Veszprém and on the shores of Lake Balaton, we would like to create a considerably exciting environment that encourages the audience to re-discover Hungarian films.
