Turning a Drawback into an Asset – the Rebirth of of a Veszprém Troll
The twenty-storey building is one of the most controversial icons of Veszprém. Whichever direction we look at it, it is a characteristic element of Veszprém’s townscape, but locals still dislike it.
Its importance, however, cannot be disregarded; if for nothing else, then for the fact that the building is home to more than five hundred people.
The ECOC bid contains several projects connected to the “Twentey”, which we plan to completely revive and restore inside and out. The outer transformation will be symbolic: every month a different architect will take their turn to redesign the patterns of its exterior. Our focus in the rethinking of interior spaces is tenant communities. A pressing problem is that there are no community spaces in the high-rise block where the people who live there could come together. We plan to turn vacant flats into indoor agoras, where we would like to offer a variety of programmes, presentations, and workshops. At this point we also intend to turn the top floor into a community space – a unique art exhibition venue, from where every small detail of our urban life may be observed real time.
