We are welcoming an international team of volunteers!
People all over the world want to know more about us! Another sign of this is the arrival of a team of 12 international volunteers to see how we are preparing for the European Capital of Culture 2023 events. They will be assisting our volunteer team of more than 200 persons over the next 3 weeks. For example, they will help to guide the international performers of the Utcazene (Street Music) Festival, will prepare a cultural quiz for visitors, and also provide feedback on Veszprém from a new perspective during their three-week stay, making certain that we are as well prepared as possible to welcome international tourists by 2023.
It was with great pleasure, and perhaps even more excitement, that we had been preparing for welcoming the twelve young Europeans for some time: we had organised their travel, accommodation, programmes and, of course, their to-do list.
The international team of volunteers have have come to us from other ECoC cities and from the twin towns of Veszprém under the European Solidarity Corps programme: four persons from Kaunas, three from Spain, two from Tartu, and one person each from Bodø in Norway, France and Poland.
You may also remember that we sent Izabella Eck to volunteer in Tartu for a year - in exchange for which we will host a volunteer from Tartu for a year.
The first few days are spent getting to know each other, and our colleagues share a wealth of useful knowledge with the new team members, as is shown in our photo report:
We would like our international volunteer guests to have a great time in our city, since they will spread the good news of our city and the European Capital of Culture programme directly to six European countries.
We have found that there is genuine curiosity and openness about our work, our current events and planned activities for the title year. We are proud to introduce our guests to the beauty and values of Veszprém and the region, and familiarise them with the background and aims of the volunteer programme.
Members of the international volunteer team will be helping out on several occasions over the next three weeks, so please make sure to give them a warm welcome! Let them take back home many positive experiences to share with their fellow volunteers and foreigners interested in the European Capital of Culture Veszprém-Balaton.
