Generational Bridges
Breaking down walls, building bridges.
Misunderstandings, communication gaps and isolation are often factors that lead to intergenerational tension. With this recognition and community building in mind, we launched the Generation Bridge workshops at the Pannon Public Space (Pannon KözTér) in 2021.
The workshop participants met first to brainstorm for programmes. They devised ideas for traditionalist and sporting activities, which they then helped to arrange and implement.
Balcony gardening, hair braiding, strudel and pizza baking, bag-sewing, handicrafts and genealogy were among the traditionalist activities organised under the mentorship of Nóra Rácz. Nóra is a member of the Finnish-Hungarian Friendship Society and is responsible for having introduced the concept and practice of neighbourhood garden cafés in Veszprém. Her café-project is being supported and extended to several neighbourhoods by our Neighbourhood Friends of Veszprém project.
As an element of Generation Bridge, a sports-themed workshop has gone into operation under the professional guidance of the Veszprém University Sports Club. Escape rooms, sports tips for public areas and pub-sport evenings are on the list of activities.
In addition to valuable times spent together, the events focus on stimulating dialogue between representatives of the various generations and exchanges of experience between the participants. The common theme and working together help resolve generational differences and initiate communication and openness towards each other. The process is supported by mentoring.
The Generation Bridge is a project that creates links between the different age groups and the community areas we operate. For example, the maintenance of the Butterfly Grove in the Jutasi Public Space is also an intergenerational project.
