A Most Colourful Festival in the Smallest Venue.

In August 2023, Margófeszt (‘Festival on the Margin’), a most colourful cultural festival in the smallest settlement of Zala County will take place for the third time. Szentgyörgyvár, a village with a population of 300, will host literary and theatre events along with concerts, slam poetry sessions, exhibitions and film screenings.

“You have to be in Zala", an ethnographer of the region, Ferenc Gönczi said. The organisers will do their utmost to ensure that visitors who come for a day or more will feel what it is truly like to be in Zala. Those in charge also prepare several programmes on the margins, tours and workshops, to explore the area in more detail and learn about its culture. One of these will be the unique Sántakutya (Limping Dog) series, recitals of exciting stories together with the locals.

The festival among the Zala hills will take place at several venues in the village: in the churchyard, in the House of Culture and its courtyard and on the hilltop, just a few kilometres from Keszthely, Hévíz and Zalaegerszeg, with Lake Balaton only 15 minutes away.

The event can be visited with day or season tickets – Zala residents qualify for a discount. The festival bus service from Zalaegerszeg and Keszthely via Hévíz will make it easy for visitors to travel to the events.
