Night of Cafés

The first few decades of the 20th century were the era of what we call classic ‘café literature’. Writers at that time did not necessarily go to the Japan Café or the New York Café because it was only there that they could write their poetry, short stories or newspaper articles. No, they went there for the company, the inspiring cultured conversations, the jokes and the time spent together, all of which were more inviting.

A desired aim of the VEB2023 programme is to turn the cafés, clubs and restaurants of Veszprém into locations for cultural meetings from time to time with a similar spirit. The Night of Cafés at the end of October perfectly matches this ambition. After several years of success in Budapest, it was launched in Veszprém in 2021. The all-arts cultural festival will feature theatre, literature, music and literature, workshops, tastings and children's activities.

The event also intends to demonstrate the unity of café owners and that focusing limelight on cafés on a special occasion can make the diversity of the traditionally solid Hungarian "café culture" even more visible.
