A round of tasty roundtable discussions in the ECoC region

Implementing the European Capital of Culture programme gives us the opportunity to get an insight into the daily life of small local communities. Because of their unparalleled riches, we have decided to make visible the minute but significant wonders that we have experienced. Not surprisingly, the local values we have discovered in many ways coincide with the spirit of the ECOC programme.

In the Setting the Table (Terítéken) program, we touch on important topics such as corporate responsibility, green thinking, environmental sustainability and family friendliness. Also on making it all work in the workplace, irrespective of whether companies are small, medium-sized or large.

We want to provide our partners involved in the ECOC programmes with practical examples and help them make these values a part of their conscious workplace practices. We also want to empower them to feel the importance of making these commitments visible and to see the fruits of their actions benefit local communities.

For this reason, we help companies share their experiences in this area and, with the help of our invited experts, make them accessible and embeddable in their daily business. The meetings are friendly opportunities for knowledge-sharing and the exchange of experiences. They are, in fact, informal discussions between invited experts and representatives of local businesses and communities, always on current issues of organisational development, company culture or labour issues.

The experts are always on hand to advise on how to tackle the issues on the table and help by introducing new trends, methods and practices. The intention is that these values will also become consciously represented and applied in the rules of the workplace.

Local communities present to businesses the objectives they need support for. Companies provide assistance, a helping hand or a partnership in circumstances that make life difficult for small communities. This is how the Nemesgulács kindergarten received a fruit dehydrator, the Vászoly football team got new football jerseys and the partnership to renew the courtyard of the Nemesgulács Community Centre was born.

The programmes aim to turn corporate social responsibility into a community-building and openness tool. We also want to empower businesses to feel the importance of communicating these commitments and using the fruits of their activities to benefit local communities.

So far, the bimonthly events have been held in Nemesgulács - Sellyei Wine, Vászoly - Portus Home, Jásd - Bodza House, Káptalantóti - Kinga's Chamber, Alsópáhok - Creative House
