Every May, the largest multidisciplinary arts festival in the City of Queens fills the streets of the castle quarter and the city centre with a colourful cavalcade of free music, art, theatre, literature and family events.

Károly Horváth, aka Charlie, the now Liszt Prize-winning singer with a distinctive voice, has become a star several times in his career. First in the second half of the seventies, as frontman of Generál, and then in the nineties as lead singer of the Tátrai Band. Looking back now, it may seem natural that he went solo, but in 1994 his decision was questioned by many, as his "mother band" was also successful. The doubters were proved wrong: Charlie still made it big, his albums went gold and platinum, and his concerts are still regularly sold out.

The singer's colleagues, composers István Lerch and Attila László, and lyricist Attila Horváth, also played a major role in the success. Without them, songs such as Jég dupla whiskyvel, Nézz az ég felé and Az légy, aki vagy would not have been possible. The Charlie Band is always made up of the country's finest musicians, Attila László on guitar, János Halász on piano, Béla Lattmann on bass and András Póta (Cuci) Péter Csiszár on saxophone.
