Colourful costumes, lights twinkling on the wind section, a drum kit ready to go and a gigantic balalaika - the stage setting alone gives an idea of what the audience of Gruppa can expect. Or does it?
No one expects a heartfelt blend of ska-core and Balkan pop that is meant to foster friendship between peoples and proudly bears the old name of Chemnitz. Those who are surprised will be even more stunned by the effect: the East German ska band is most often listened to jumping around, chanting simple but poignant lyrics, even if it is the first time we have heard them.
