Veszprém and the Lake Balaton Uplands have a uniquely rich medieval heritage, as you can find monasteries, churches, chapels and castle ruins everywhere you go in the region. These ruins will be filled with life and art in the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture Ruin Concert series.

The events are organised in close-to-nature locations and have one thing in common: they are all held at the foot of ruins in the Balaton Uplands or in Veszprém, in front of a small audience and with minimal sound and light equipment. In the literary-inspired concerts, the aim is to create opportunities for a more personal, intimate connection between the performers, the audience and the environment, which is why the performances will have a small audience.

As the opening performance of the Ruin Concerts 2023 season, we bring László Kollár-Klemencz's musical and literary evening entitled Öreg Banda (Old Band) to the feet of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Dörgicse.

László Kollár-Klemencz's first novel Öreg Banda was published in October 2021. The author moved from the forest to the forest of the family. The book follows the exciting and varied life of the author's multi-generational family of musicians and the Öreg Banda (Old Band), his family band, from the mid-eighteen hundreds, through wars, family and social dramas, to the nineteen seventies, in a small Swabian village in Pest County, where music, Öreg Banda, preserved and saved their traditions, holidays, customs, faith and often, ensured their very survival.

The performance lasts about 60 minutes

Minimising the environmental impact, exploring and protecting the values of nature and history is a key element of the programme, which is why the performances are organised as ZERO WASTE events.

The events in the series are free of charge but require online pre-registration. Registration for the events opens a few weeks before the performances.
