Long Table Picnic

A table that stretches over a kilometre and a half, fancy table setting, delicious food, mouth-watering desserts, refreshing drinks, fine wines, good vibes, fellowship and a great time together - that's Long Table Picnic! If you were with us last year, you can relive the experience; if you're with us for the first time, you'll have an experience like never before! 

Last year, celebrating the halfway point of Veszprém-Balaton 2023 ECoC, we brought to life an event for thousands of people, the first of its kind in the history of Veszprém and the region. It was a pleasure to see and experience with the participants how the people of the region could sit around the same table and celebrate our successes together in an informal and friendly picnic.

This year, everyone can put their favourite food on the endless picnic table and share it with the others, so that besides a truly unique and exciting taste experience, you can also learn about the gastronomy of the various parts of our region.

In addition to the many delicacies on offer, jugglers, magicians, showmen and musicians add to the fun.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to this unusual picnic: families, groups of friends and of course everyone, not only from the Bakony and Lake Balaton region, who would like to experience the unique atmosphere of Hungary's biggest picnic!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Do I have to pay for table bookings? 

There is no charge. Participation is free of charge, only pre-registration is required. 

How can I register? 

You can book your place at the event by filling in the quick, user-friendly questionnaire on our website. It's best to register in groups of four or more so you can book whole tables. Of course, we also welcome registrations for one or two persons for a true community picnic experience.

Where can I park and from which direction should I arrive? 

Given the expected high number of visitors and the limited parking possibilities in the area, residents of Veszprém are asked to choose a means of transport other than a car if they can so that people arriving from other settlements can find free spaces easier.

When will we know which table we can sit at?

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis at tables marked with colour groups. Our colleagues will assist you in making a booking without any problems. If you are more than one person, we suggest that you wait for each other at one of the entrances and take your tables together. Of course, if someone from your team arrives late, you can reserve a seat for them alongside you until they arrive.

Tables will be numbered so you can tell late arrivals exactly where to find you.

How many hours will the event last? 

The event takes place from 15.00 to 18.00 on Sunday, 23rd June 2024. This timeframe is in compliance with the venue's event rules. Accordingly, organisers will start removing tables and benches after 18.00. Table parties are free to continue picnicking in the Valley after the event and outside the event area.

Will I be able to cook or warm food up on site? 

Sorry, no. Due to the location and size of the event, there is no possibility to cook or heat food on site.

With this in mind, it is recommended that you mainly prepare dishes that can be eaten cold for the Picnic.

Sale and purchase of food and drinks

You can only sell items in the event area if you have a prior permit, so you cannot offer for sale any handicraft products you have brought. Since everyone brings food from home, we typically provide beverage trucks: if you get thirsty for a beer or a spritzer, there's no need to carry it with you.

Can I bring my dog - is the event dog friendly? 

Yes. Of course, we welcome your four-legged friends, but you should be aware that you will have to pay special attention to them due to the large number of visitors.

Dogs must have the obligatory microchip and a valid vaccination book. Please do not bring dogs to the event that are in heat, sick or aggressive.

What happens if it rains? 

We are not planning for rain, but of course we will be in constant touch with the relevant department of HungaroMet Hungarian Meteorological Service Non-profit Jsc. In the event of a storm warning that threatens the safety of the event, we will inform you by email the day before the event about cancellation. In all other weather conditions (wind and rain), the picnic will go ahead. 

Smoking - designated smoking areas 

We will be outdoors, but we would like to ask everyone, as we will be sitting at the same table, to be considerate of their neighbours and please use the designated smoking areas.

Can I cancel the picnic if I can't come? 

Yes. In fact, we'd like to ask you to do so in any case so that the organisers have an accurate count of people. So, if you can't join us on 23rd June, please send your cancellation as indicated in the confirmation email.
