Balatonalmádi, the Town of Colourful Steps
Balatonalmádi literally brings contemporary art out onto the streets in a project dreamed up by the Balatonalmádi Aranyhíd Polgári Egyesület (Golden Bridge Civic Association). The flights of stairs in the town's central areas provide an excellent location for the project, with the steps serving as the canvas for the works.
Seeing the artwork and taking it all in also opens up a new urban route for those living here and visitors alike.
Hopefully, the Town of Colourful Steps will not be a once-only project but a continuous artwork-in-progress to be renewed, changed and continued year after year. The plan is to carry the project on by calling for proposals from young artists nationwide.
The stairs, during and after their ceremonial inauguration, will create a new, unconventional venue for the cultural life of Almádi - not something to be passed by but a location for musical and literary events.
