Children's Gardens

From Gisela Days to Children’s Day.

In May, the Theatre Garden will turn into Queen Gisela's courtyard and will invite children from Veszprém and the nearby settlements to a series of unforgettable storybook parties. The Garden will become a real kid’s paradise, with concerts, crafts, a one-of-a-kind playhouse and adventure games. Launched in May 2022 with great success, this initiative will hopefully become a tradition connecting Gisela Days (Gizella Napok) and Children's Day in early June with a festival for children.

To the delight of young and old, the Hands and Feet Playhouse will return with their special adventure games built from scrap, old bicycles, industrial waste and household rubbish. The Veszprém Sports Climbing Association will erect a climbing wall and musical instruments will wait to be sounded at the Hangolóra (The Tuning Hour) tent. (And if we’re lucky, even the Trillamanók (Trilling Trolls) will show up under the leafy boughs…)

A whole string of stars will take to the Kiddie-Garden stage, including the Kaláka Ensemble, Judit Halász, Apacuka, Réka Farkasházi and the Tintanyúl (the Ink Rabbit), Kiskalász, Belvárosi Betyárok (the Downtown Outlaws) and, of course, the Kabóca (Cicada) Puppet Theatre.

Even these productions will be outdone on the stage on each weekend, when a new premiere or international show will stir things up further:

  • the Kiddie-Garden audience will be the first to meet Sió, the fairy of Lake Balaton in ‘Monsters and Mermaids’, a play produced for VEB2023, based on a soon-to-come-out children’s book;
  • the 10th Theatre Olympics with jugglers, marionette masters and foreign acrobats will pop in the Garden, while the Kabóca Puppet Theatre will introduce the famous Chinese master glove-puppeteer Yeung Fai;
  • for an entire weekend, the Garden will be transformed into a world of pirate tales thanks to the “Libertalia” plays, with performers from five countries,
  • the puppet troupes of the Magic Puppet Festival will gather in the Garden to show off their talents.
