Libertalia

In 2023, a real pirate myth will come to life in the city.... In the 17th and 18th centuries, a network of European pirate raiders, the "Libertalia" was an active organization, calling themselves the "Guardians of Liberty". Legend has it that the network was founded on the principle of compassion.

Performers from five countries got together to create this modern version of the pirate tale. After performing in Gothenburg, Bootle, Turku and Bad Ischl, they will come to Veszprém in the spring of 2023. We will work on a story together that could only take place in this area - and that story will be performed.

Each time the artists present the spirit of "Libertalia" in an alternative outdoor performance. Every "Libertalia" story they play out is unique and is built on a story related to the host city.

We’ve never had pirates... but we need not despair; we’ll get plenty of inspiration from the stories of our very own Bakony outlaws.
