Vöröstó Game Festival
Not for children only.
The Vöröstó Games Festival promises to be one of the most light-hearted events of the ECOC year. On the last weekend in May, two of the smallest villages in the Balaton Uplands, Vöröstó and Barnag, will become a common playground for board game fans and those who love playing pétanque and e-sports, among others.
Playing is an exciting experiment with family, friends or strangers. Whether the game is physical, logical, strategic, cooperative or competitive, we learn a little more about ourselves and each other each time we play. Albert Einstein said that playing was the best form of exploration - discovering our abilities and understanding human nature. It is an experiment we can pursue both consciously and unconsciously and, of course, it is a source of pleasure in which we can let ourselves go. The community of Vöröstó and Barnag has rediscovered this perhaps obvious yet important truth. They have been gathering to play games for years and want to share this tradition with visitors to the Games Festival.
The programme has been designed to offer a choice between classic games that everyone knows and are easy to play and innovative, surprising, challenging games. Those looking for board games will not be disappointed, but there will also be sports competitions such as rounders, kite flying, footgolf and even an e-bike treasure hunt. There will also be plenty to challenge the brain, from Twenty Questions to anagrams. Folk traditions, toy-making workshops, a farmers' market, theatre and music will add to the lively festival atmosphere. The Vöröstó Games Festival awaits.
