InterUrban: #16 Kingston (JM)

What the Caribbean port city of Kingston, the former trading centre of the British Empire and capital of nearly a million people, has given us is best told in music.

The reggae music that started its global conquest from one of the city's slums was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List in 2018 as both a spiritual and political genre that appeals to our emotions and our senses, and sings the stories of the marginalised. The hometown of Bob Marley and Usain Bolt, the city that preserves the history of the colonial empire and the emancipation of black people, is today a bustling tourist, commercial and financial centre. In mid-summer, Veszprém hosts the Jamaican capital and its best-known treasure, reggae.
