It's finish time – Let everybody cheer for us!

What plans have we got for the remaining days of the ECoC competition? Zoltán Mészáros, director of Veszprém–Balaton 2023 Plc talked about this  in Méz Rádió's latest Veszprém-Balaton 2023 magazine programme.

What plans have we got for the remaining days of the ECoC competition? Zoltán Mészáros, director of Veszprém–Balaton 2023 Plc talked about this  in Méz Rádió’s latest Veszprém-Balaton 2023 magazine programme.

We only need to sleep three until we finally get to know whether the winner city’s name starts with a V!

Although many were sceptical at the beginning of our work, in time more and more people started to back our city’ s bid –  we have managed to win young people’s trust, as they are even more supportive and positive than older ones. Since the 2010 bid we have learned much and have put more effort towards the competition – said the bid-coordinating venture’s director.

Zoltán Mészáros stressed: “after work that has lasted for over three years, at half past three on 14th December, the announcement ceremony will disclose the name of the next Hungarian European Capital of Culture winner city in the Palace of Arts in Budapest. Until then, a five-member group of the 12-strong jury is going to visit the City of Queens; they are going to be shown around the city centre – e.g. they are going to see Hangvilla, Óváros Square, Trinity Square, Benedek Hill and the Viaduct –, thus we are going to convince them that this title would be best placed with Veszprém. Finally, on Friday morning our team are going to talk about our programme in a presentation.”

Whatever the outcome may be on Friday, we can be proud, as we have already reached a great result with our work: the whole city is cheering as a real community and it wears the 2023 badge as a cocquarde!

The final moments. Go, Veszprém!
