VESZPRÉM-BALATON FILMPICNIC IS A MONTH AND A HALF AWAY
Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic is to take place from 3rd to 5th September, with free screenings of the finest Hungarian films from 2019.
Atmospheric open-air and urban screening locations are meant to create an exciting scene where Hungarian films can meet their audiences again after the epidemic. The palette of Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic is made wider and more appealing by accompanying music and gastronomy programmes, participation events as well as meetings between filmmakers and audiences.
Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic will present the awardees of the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival along with the best classics of our country, free of charge, from 3rd to 5th September. It has been announced that Hangvilla, Expresszó and the Castle (Szentháromság Square) are designated venues in Veszprém, while film fans in Balatonfüred are invited to watch last year’s best motion picture pieces at Balaton Cinema and the giant display screen on Tagore Promenade.
While the palette of the free event is enriched by music and gastronomy programmes in addition to meetings between artists and audiences both in Veszprém and at the Lake, it is also important for organisers to create a meeting point for professionals, further strengthening the role of motion picture art in Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region.
Part of the European capital of Culture programme, the new film event is based on close cooperation between ECoC Veszprém-Balaton 2023, the National Film Institute and the Hungarian Film Academy.
Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic is meant to strengthen the Veszprém and Balaton cultural-creative region and enhance its European visibility. “Since the ’90s, filmmaking has not been present in the region with any major professional or public programme: it was back then about thirty years ago that the last Veszprém Television Convention was held.
At the same time, the atmosphere of the city and Lake Balaton is ideal for a film meeting, so this initiative gives us special joy and expectations,” - said János Can Togay, artistic and creative director of Veszprém-Balaton 2023 JLC and Péter Muszatics, Filmpicnic’s artistic director.
Partner event to Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic is Book-Wine-Jazz, three days with a string of reader meet writer programmes, wine tasting combined with picture gallery guided tours and jazz concerts in front of Hungarian Reform Era houses in Blaha Street.
Several thousand visitors are expected at Veszprém-Balaton Filmpicnic. Atmospheric open-air and urban screening locations are meant to create an exciting scene where Hungarian films can meet their audiences again after the epidemic, and precisely for this reason, all screenings will be free of charge.
