The chaconne was born in the Baroque era and spread in record time, appearing in Europe in countless forms during the 17th and 18th centuries. Initially a dance, it soon became an instrumental form of music, and in no time at all it had infiltrated all genres, from orchestral works to opera and even oratorio and sacred music. It is rare to have the opportunity to present such a rich world of such a universal musical form in a single concert. The world-famous Belgian ensemble La Cetra d'Orfeo, together with dancers and the Orlando Choir of Veszprém, will do just that. For this is the Chaconne Festival.

Founded by Michel Keustermans, La Cetra d'Orfeo (La Lyre d'Orphée) is an early music ensemble whose originality lies in the variety of its programmes, presented to the public in a lively and accessible way. Their original concerts, often accompanied by humorous commentary, are a carefully constructed journey during which the listener feels led emotionally and spiritually to one or more climaxes.

Thanks to their eclectic and ever-changing repertoire, they are regularly invited to perform at festivals around the world. In addition to traditional concerts, the company's performances are based on a variety of themes, often combining several artistic disciplines, be it poetry, painting, baroque or contemporary dance, puppetry, or juggling.

The Orlando Singing Ensemble was founded in 2000 by Pál Vikman, who is still its artistic director. Its repertoire is based on sacred vocal polyphony by composers from the 14th to the 16th centuries. The ensemble, which was expanded to 16 members a few years ago, now frequently performs works by later composers, mainly from the Baroque period, but also by contemporary composers, with the occasional addition of instrumentalists. In addition to the performance of the music, the solo concerts are accompanied by an insightful commentary that guides the listener through the development of the style, the period and the music.

Programme:
Raise your hand if you have ever heard 17th century music from Peru or Bolivia. The question is rhetorical, but now it is time to fill the gap. The programme includes works by well-known composers such as Diego Ortiz, Frescobaldi, Foscarini, Cererols and Encina. All in an arrangement by Michel Keustermans, the leader of the ensemble.

La Cetra d'Orfeo is supported by the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles, Direction Générale de la Culture, the Province of Brabant Wallon, the Walloon Region, the Cocof, the Brussels-Capital Region, Wallonie-Bruxelles-International, the Awex and the Fevis.
