Veronika Harcsa / Bálint Gyémánt / Mihály Dresch – Lamplight
Veszprém and the Lake Balaton Uplands have a uniquely rich medieval heritage, as you can find monasteries, churches, chapels and castle ruins everywhere you go in the region. These ruins will be filled with life and art in the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture Ruin Concert series.
Internationally acclaimed musicians Veronika Harcsa and Bálint Gyémánt have been working together since their years at the Liszt Academy of Music. Their acoustic duo has become their most important formation, and although they recorded their last two albums as a quartet with two Belgian musicians, it is still the duo formation that is at the core of their work. They have worked out how to achieve the fullest sound with a single guitar and vocal line, and their songs are personally inspired, with depth, liberation and humour. The duo has toured some forty countries and numerous festivals, and their concerts are an opportunity to be witness to creative, experimental, genre-blending musical stories.
In the performance entitled Lamplight, Veronika Harcsa and Bálint Gyémánt perform lesser-known poems by well-known 20th century Hungarian poets. The poems were selected and set to music by Veronika Harcsa, with orchestration contributions from members of her ensemble.
The performance will include poems by Attila József, Árpád Tóth, Dezső Kosztolányi, Mihály Babits, Sándor Weöres, Ágnes Nemes Nagy, Lajos Kassák and Frigyes Karinthy.
