Art up close!
Art up close! Participatory culture and community!| Babel Camp art base
The programmes of Babel Camp CultNet aim to build and strengthen the relationship between artists and the local community and the experience of the sense of local patriotism.
The aim of the meetings held in the context of the studio exhibitions at the Balatonboglár Chapel between '70 and '73 was to open up gateways and connections between local traditions and the concentric circles of self-definition of national or European art. In an intimate setting at the Babel Camp art base, and in an unusual proximity to the chapel once used as a studio, we can encounter art, artists, the history of the neo-avant-garde and contemporary culture of the Kádár era as partners in the discussions, taking an active role as partners.
Babel Camp opened in Balatonboglár in 2016, with the long-term goal of becoming a year-round creative and recreational art base for both local artists and those from abroad. In line with this objective, the necessary infrastructure (accommodation, creative spaces, and equipment) will be continuously developed. Currently, we have accommodation for 54 people all year round and 100 people in summer, several community and creative spaces, 4 stages (1 outdoors and 3 indoors), as well as catering and dining facilities for participants and visitors.
Our aim is to independently organise and host art workshops, artist residencies, masterclasses and professional conferences lasting a few days. Through our programmes, we aim to make masterclasses by renowned foreign artists accessible to domestic artists and, simultaneously, raise the profile of domestic artists among foreign visitors. Babel Camp's unique location makes it attractive for everyone: the inspiring natural environment, the proximity of Lake Balaton, the accommodation and the creative spaces surrounded by the plane and lime trees of the huge park offer a special experience for both creative and leisure visitors.
The Babel Campet Ltd is engaged in the organisation of cultural events and cultural programmes. It has held several major music camps and dozens of concerts, both in its own organisation and as a host venue, and is playing an increasingly important role in the city's community life
