Contemporary Dance - Stepping Out of the Box.

One week every May, we are reminded once again that by itself, contemporary dance is not a genre limited to the interest of a narrow stratum of aficionados, but a diverse creative force rooted in our modern life. For the 25th time, the Festival of Dance brings the best of Hungarian and international productions to Veszprém under the supervision of art director Csaba Horváth and festival director László Vándorfi.

The festival programme is pre-juried, as is the competition programme to ensure high quality and prestige. In past years, Veszprém had hosted outstanding foreign productions from, among others, Spain, Finland, France, Belgium, Canada, and South Korea, and regularly returning performances by prominent Hungarian dance companies, including the Szeged Contemporary Ballet, Central Europe Dance Theatre, Pál Frenák Company, Éva Duda Company, Gangaray Dance Company. Each year the event organisers offer an opportunity for the new generation of Hungarian dancers to show themselves, inviting the best productions of the Imre Zoltán Programme.

A critical mission of the festival is to build interest and understanding in the local audience for contemporary dance. Every year dancers appear on the streets of Veszprém with special productions and performances designed for families with young children and performed by renowned artists and companies such as Csaba Méhes and Brass in the Five or the Rita Góbi Company.

Photo exhibitions, concerts, literary evenings, professional studios, film screenings and other accompanying events add colour to enrich the evening performances, whose common denominator is always contemporary dance, and the Lighthouse light art group from Debrecen and their spectacular media art installation every year.
