A Digital Knowledge Centre, established with professional support and coordinated by the Digital Success Programme, opened in Veszprém on 21 March. It is run by Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Zrt. under the unusual name of Digital Meat Shop, as it was created in the building of a former meat market. It presents robotics, virtual reality, automation, and artificial intelligence – the achievements of the 21st century that interested people in Veszprém and the region may acquaint themselves with. The education and entertainment centre primarily targets schoolchildren and young adults intending to draw young people into the world of digitalisation.

Using the experience of the existing Digital Success Programme Points (DSP Points), Digital Knowledge Centres are being established in six rural cities (Békés, Kaposvár, Kecskemét, Nyíregyháza, Oroszlány and Veszprém). They will be equipped, designed, professionally supported, and coordinated by the Digital Success Programme. The total value of the investment is HUF 2.4 billion.

The building in Veszprém’s city centre, owned by the municipality, used to be a school and a bank branch. Still, it is best known to Veszprém residents as a former meat shop. With approximately HUF 110 million support from the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture Programme (VEB 2023), the 300 sq. metre building was renovated in three months and has now returned to its educational function: it was a school in the late 1920's.

Today it is not a school in the traditional sense; students nevertheless will be able to learn and develop their skills within its walls. One of the goals of the VEB 2023 programme is to deliver local children-oriented and family-friendly programmes, and the establishment of the digital centre is an excellent contribution to this goal.

Since April, the centre's instructors have welcomed students and teachers from the city and the region after prior registration for an extra IT class or special study group. In free classes for schools, students can get to know the robot dog Bodri; they can try what it is like to programme mini-robots, design and print small 3D souvenirs, and gain insight into the world of virtual reality.

In the future young people visiting the Knowledge Centre will be able to assess their skills and competencies using the latest diagnostic career planning tools and professional methodologies. The analysis results provide the basis for a career guidance proposal, helping the person plan the ideal job for himself.

In addition to the above, the Digital Meat Store offers programmes for children and young and active older adults since getting acquainted with and integrating into the digital culture does not depend on age.
