Environmental Sustainability
A crucial objective of ECOC is to have a long-term impact on the region's culture through responsible, more environmentally conscious programme development and event organisation.
Events with responsibility
Events exist in the present but can have long turn future consequences. Their impact on the environment can be reduced, for example, through waste prevention, selective waste collection and environmentally conscious transport. The awareness, including environmental awareness of participants, can be raised through the exemplary activity of the staff of the event. ECOC's main objective is to influence the region's culture in the long term through a responsible, environmentally more conscious programme development and event organisation.
Sustainability Mentoring / Training
We support our applicants to apply the measures taken to achieve environmental sustainability. Consultation sessions and training are being organised for VEB2023 partner event organisers in the Bakony-Balaton Region.
We will be providing information on our training events soon.
We care about waste prevention
In the lifecycle of events, most waste is generated by catering and during the production of decorative elements. Moreover, the production of handouts is also a waste-producing activity. Whatever we produce, we pay attention to the following aspects:
- producing long-lasting quality products;
- in choosing materials, preferring natural, recyclable, or recycled materials;
- refrain from using disposable plastics;
- in pursuit of circularity, seek solutions for the reuse of the materials produced: e.g. create bags out of used banners and buntings;
- prefer and favour local service providers.
We support community and alternative transportation
Generally speaking, visitors travelling to and from events is the most environmentally polluting aspect of the event. We are, therefore, working to ensure that by 2023 the conditions are in place for as many visitors as possible to choose less environmentally burdensome modes of transport.
We provide selective waste collection
In 2021, we implemented successful selective waste collection programmes at the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival and the Street Music Festival venues.
With the support of a local service provider, we will ensure that wide-ranging selective waste collection will be arranged at the events in the region.
We use washable glasses
We voted in favour of reusable products, as circularity is the keyword. We support the capacity development of a local service provider to ensure that washing glasses and rental service is available in the region.
