The Association of Open-Air Theatres will join the VEB 2023 programme with its 2023 Open-Air Theatres Meeting at the Kultkikötő Amfiteátrum (CultHarbour Amphitheatre) in Alsóörs and the Boglári Nagyszínpad (Boglár Main Stage). The two venues will present the latest staged productions of association members – in an unconventional theatre festival.

The Open-Air Theatre Meeting will be a new, valuable multi-day event in the Balaton region in 2023. This is the first festival in the country that will bring together and entertain audiences and provide them with a memorable experience in a single festival with productions expressly set for open-air venues.

During the multi-day event, audiences will not only be able to enjoy a range of sophisticated performances for children and adults; there will also be accompanying programmes that will help showcase cultural values for the broadest possible audience. The repertoire will include adult and children's plays. The organisers will devote special attention to presenting dance theatre and non-verbal performances, thus broadening their audience base and extending their reach to international audiences.

The festival will run for one week at each venue, with two daily performances.

In Balatonboglár, for example, Shakespeare's “The Tempest”, directed by Viola Török and performed by the Maros Art Ensemble and András Berecz and Sons; Cédric Chapuis' monodrama “BEAT” (Une vie sur mesure); András Berecz's “God’s Jester”, and Neil Simon's “The Sunshine Boys”, performed jointly by the Kisvárda Castle Theatre and the Petőfi Theatre in Sopron, will be a defining experience.

At the 750-seat outdoor Alsóörs Amphitheatre, Felicia Zeller's drama “Der Fiskus” (The Treasury) performed by the Vienna Burgtheater; the historical musical “The Stars of Eger” (Egri csillagok) by Mátyás Várkonyi and Attila Béres; and the adult comedy “The Devil”, based on Zsigmond Móricz's comedies, performed by the Arad Chamber Theatre will be on show.
