KUNSZT!
KUNSZT! is Veszprém's new design shop, gallery and community space. It opened in mid-September in the centre of the city, Óváros (Old Town) Square, in the huge corner shop of the historic Rosenberg House.
KUNSZT! is set to be a real local highlight of Veszprém, in an easily accessible central location and a sophisticated environment, where the public will be able to shop for the unique creations of industrial artists and designers with ties to the area and Lake Balaton. The specialties of KUNSZT! will be its pop-up store concept, workshops, community programmes and the matching sophisticated gastronomic offer. In a local patriotic yet multicultural environment, Veszprém citizens can socialise at any time of day and tourists can get immresed in the cultural life of the city.
Street Look Development Programme
KUNSZT! was opened with support from the VEB2023 Street Look Management Programme. The aim of the programme is to make an old dream of Veszprémers come true and fill the route leading to Veszprém castle - that is, Óváros Square and its surroundings - with life even when there are no major events ongoing.
We have identified the problem that developments in this neighbourhood simply will not work on a pinpoint basis. So we have launched our Street Look Development Programme to help open establishments which could improve the atmosphere of the square and fill it with life.
We would like to add new functions to the business premises in the city centre that were missing from the palette, but at the same time help Veszprém become a European destination.
VEB2023-KUNSZT! creative competition
Team KUNSZT! and the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme invited designers to compete for publicity in the shop during the summer of 2021. A jury of four experts has evaluated the tenders. Members were Balázs Béla Prize winner film director, university lecturer, cultural diplomat, chief artistic and creative adviser of the VEB2023 ECoC programme Can Togay; graphic and visual artist, Aranyszög Prize winner, founder of KUNSZT and Art Hekk Andrej Tóth; presenter, art critic and auctioneer Nóra Winkler, and Péter Zabó, art director of ECoC VEB2023.
