Magic Puppet Festival
International meeting of amateur children's puppeteers.
“From Fairy Tales to Betrothals”. These were the catchwords in the letter to 25 amateur puppet troupes inviting the entire puppet community in Hungary and abroad.
After a year of preparations, the best children's puppeteers from every county and Hungarian-speaking region across the border will come to Veszprém to play full performances and create brief flash mobs at classical and unconventional venues. The tasks and themes are the same for everyone, but each group will surely weave their own story into their performance.
Undoubtedly, the most spectacular event of the festival will be when giant puppets created by the troupes, accompanied by stilt walkers, brass bands, flag-wavers, and carnival performers, will climb up to the castle, cross the city centre and finally arrive at the Theatre Garden, where they will join the Kiddie-Court programme. There the four-day meet will end with the ceremonial Puppet Parade. Before the parade, however, the troupes hope to welcome not only the young puppeteers, but every family in Veszprém to the professional puppet performances and puppet-making sessions.
