Countdown Event to the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture and a Marcell Likó Solo Concert

On 24 November, a high-level delegation from the Veszprem-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture (#VEB2023) hosted by the Europe Point, the cultural and information centre of the European Commission in Hungary. The group presented the fantastic range of programmes planned by Veszprém and the participating 116 settlements of the Bakony-Balaton region to the Hungarian international community, cultural diplomats, tourism specialists and international press.

Just two months before the official Grand Opening on 21-22 January 2023, our extensive offering of literally thousands of programmes in the 1000-year-old City of Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region have already been largely compiled and scheduled. The time has come to show off our abundant cultural and natural riches to both Hungary and the rest of Europe, and shine!

Zoltán Mészáros, Chief Advisor to the ECoC CEO, CEO of VeszprémFest; Friderika Mike, ECoC Director of Programme Development; and Can Togay János, ECoC Chief Artistic and Creative Advisor, participated in the evening roundtable discussion about the essence of the EKF programme and the key events of next year. The backdrop was enriched by our traveling HelloVEB Photo Exhibition and slideshow which features stunning photos of the region. The tasting of gourmet food and wines from small regional producers (see below), and a solo concert by Várpalota native and Vad Fruttik frontman Marcell Likó, went late into the evening.

The exciting and multi-faceted calendar holds attractions for guests of all ages and interests, whether from Hungary or abroad. Visitors can explore the year-long programme for events that best appeal to their interests, either by themes or the 9 clusters we created. There is plenty to do for those who do not speak Hungarian – music and dance festivals, art exhibitions, performance art and the gastro and wine scene to just name a few. Although the full programme can be accessed by our webpage in Hungarian, English and German, visitors are encouraged to download our convenient free app to stay up to date.

After our successful presentations in Brussels, Zagreb and Budapest, the roadshow is heading to Ljubljana on 7 December, and then a dozen more stops in the new year so that as many people as possible may become acquainted with the cultural and natural treasures of Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region.

This was an official event of the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary.
